Batakari Style Inspiration

The Government has declared the first Friday of every month an official  Batakari Friday. Batakari is the traditional attire of the people of the north. This initiative according to sources is to boost the patronage of made-in-Ghana goods, promote the attire internationally and finally to widen its reach.

The smock is made of handloomed strips of Kente fabric that are three to four inches in width.  Wearing Batakari can't  be boring after all because these style inspirations are just perfect. Do you own a batakari? Are you ready to embrace the new challenge of wearing it on the first Friday of each month? Why don't you send in some photos when you can and I will gladly repost.

Trend Alert: Ripped Jeans Style

Fashion isn’t static, trends are constantly evolving and this time the 90’s style has bounced right back to reclaim it’s popularity. I am talking about ripped jeans trend. Initially, ripped jeans could’ve been achieved due to wear and tear but quite lately there’s has been deliberate attempt to mimic wear and tear style. I have spotted quite a number of people who have rocked the ripped jean style in all it’s glory. But wait, how Ripped can ripped jeans be ripped? I have spotted 3 different ripped jeans styles that I think you may have spotted as well.

J'adore fashion

Let's begin with the "small regular ripped" style: This Slim-fit kind of jean style suits girls who want to go a bit crazy but not over the top dramatic. This look is also for individuals who just love style and wont mind joining the trend in a subtle way. Regular ripped style look can be paired to look either classy or casual. From heels to sneakers to Tees and fitting tops just about any look can go with this.

Next we have the "Boyfriend ripped jeans": I coined that name by the way; this type of jean is not the regular slim-fit kind. This one is sort of loose more like the baggy ones. Tomboys are best for this kind of ripped jean. They can absolutely rock this because believe it or yes its for the bold. This type screams  “yes I've got it under control” , Pair this look with heels and thank me later.

Finally we have "the huge ripped cut": these are huge cuts on the jean. This style is for the over- the- top dramatic, attention seeking personalities. Ladies who wear these really don’t care about people's opinions. Can be styled to look causal or urban chic depending on who’s wearing.

Recap of African Fashion Week Amsterdam 2015

Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam 2015 was held on 28th/30th August 2015 at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam. A beautiful weekend in Amsterdam saw the opening of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam’s second edition. Held at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam, designers, press, models and other industry professionals mingled and took in the atmosphere and surroundings that totally lent itself to show off the best of African inspired fashion.
The ever charming, International Superstar and Award-winning movie star Ramsey Nouah, welcomed the guests wearing fabulous designs from Blackpearl's Secret by Diana Tambe; all potent enough to make sure the guests were in for a sensory weekend of Inspirational African design.

The renown handmade dutch produced designer Omar Munie opened the event. Designers from as far afield as Zambia represented at Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam. Lia Samantha flew in from South America especially to highlight the fact that African print is becoming enormously popular in Colombia.
AFWA was also about bringing awareness to sustainability, ethical material sourcing and fair trade. Mrs. Jos Huber from the Ministry of foreign affairs shared her vision on sustainability in fashion. “Workers need to get their share, go for fair trade from the start”. She also highlighted that Kenya has a good social model, a perfect example for other African countries.

Albert Chapel the Dutch artist who specializes in wood & haute couture in collaboration with Diana Tambe ( the brain and inspiration behind the collection) presented their unique style by bringing high fashion drama, wearable wood designs to the final show. This blended perfectly with AFWA’s ever-evolving fashion conscious collective. At last, the renown Dutch-Cameroonian high-end fashion designer Miss Diana Tambe also showed her high glamour designs from Blackpearl Secret’s spring/summer 2016 collection sponsored by Holland Textiles NL.

Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam’s hair and makeup artist brought their expertise in afro-beauty to the African fashion spectacle. We would like to express thanks to the head stylist Maureen Riley and Miss Afro Beauty C.E.O. Ruth Mukete who came all the way from London to show her support. While we appreciate the support, the real thanks goes out to Diana Tambe (founder & CEO) and Aydin Acik the fashion man & producer extraordinaire.
We are looking forward to organize the third edition of the largest gathering of African fashion designers, arts, models, exhibitors, buyers, retailers, fashion influencers & business tycoons in 2016.
