Mercedes-Benz is well known for its unique alignment with Fashion Weeks on the global fashion landscape, and the only Automobile brand significantly at the forefront of creative development support of local and international fashion business platforms, laying focus on, and promoting emerging new design talents. As the world’s first automaker, design innovation remains at the centre of Mercedes-Benz luxury cars unique engineering pioneered by its inventor Carl Benz.
Ghana Fashion and Design week is “honoured to have the support of Silver Star Auto Ltd. (SSAL) Ghana, who shares their innovative ideas and vision for creative industry and talent development through design education and entrepreneurship for social and economic inclusion.

Silver star Auto Ltd has already been a beneficiary of Afua who won the Silver Star Award of Excellence, as the best fashion design graduate in her year. Afua, who has been under guidance and development support since 2014 at the GFDW
New Talent Spot™ initiative space, will reveal her premiere collection at the event this year. 3 new best fashion design 2015 graduate talents from Radford University will join Afua at the initiative space. 

As part of the exciting activities at this year event, GFDW introduces "STYLE & STEEL" turning a special focus on the Men Behind the Mercedes-Benz luxury Car Wheels, some of which will have the opportunity to be rewarded with a healthy Well being treatment after a long day drive at the Luxury XMen Spa & Grooming Bar with ease and comfort.  This will come along with 20% Grooming Gift Reward for the whole month of October 2015, within which GFDW event takes place, offering them the opportunity to prep ready for a true experience with Mercedes-Benz at the fashion week. For the ladies with style, Designer label 1981 by Nana Brenu, will open its doors for them to shop quality pieces at a limited period with a 10% Fashion Gift Reward after the fashion week. SO CHIC DE WOODIN...

Africa’s fast fashion brand, Woodin, today unveiled its latest and newest collection for 2015, So Chic De Woodin.

Designed with the funkiest, stylish and creative woman in mind, Woodin’s new collection is everything you need to stand out this season of love.

 The exciting combination of cool and warm colours and small motifs allows you to transform from smart to glam. The new collection will be launched at the Woodin Oxford Street boutique in Accra at 3pm on February 6th, 2015 with a mini-fashion show and small event.

#DASHIKI OR #DANSHIKI?

 #dashiki or #danshiki? Lets end the argument!!! before that read this little information i gathered on the origin of this garment. 

The Dashiki is a colorful garment widely worn in West Africa that covers the top half of the body. It has formal and informal versions and varies from simple draped clothing to fully tailored suits.

The name Dashiki is derived from the Yoruba word "danshiki", which means shirt. It is usually worn with a hat called "Kurfi" or "Koufia", which are Yoruba words for hat, and a pair of pants called "Sokoto", which is the Yoruba word for trousers.

The dashiki has made a huge breakthrough from Africa since the African American culture struggles of the 1960's where it became a symbol of affirmation, it stood for “black is beautiful,” and signaled a return to African roots. 

Dashiki's first started being made in Harlem around the summer of 1960 and now find a home all over the US. Celebrities all over the world including you:)  wear Dashiki.

Glitz Africa Fashion weekDay1 Highlights

Day 1 of the much anticipated Glitz Fashion Week took off in grand style as always as organizers, designers and models prepped up to give out a memorable show.

The show  kick started with showcases from I.K Dorkenoo, AVD fashion, Rose Phaleres, Lumiere couture, Aisha Kemi Eku, La Mode and a host of other designers. 

Day1 was a very good beginning  to the 3day event. The second and third days promises to thrill just as the first day has as we are yet to see the beautiful collections of designers such as Mina Evans,Totally Ethnic, Orange culture, Alphadi, Christie Brown,PoquaPoqu and others.
