Bello Edu : The bloom Collection

On the 21st of June 2014, Kaya Energy Bar bloomed with colour as Bello|Edu previewed their debut collection. Kaya Energy Bar & Design, a lifestyle concept of blending a bar, raw food restaurant and designer show room served as the venue for the preview party. The Head Designer of Bello|Edu and Co-Founder, introduced the collection and explained the creative inspiration behind the collection. ‘We drew inspiration from the blossoming of a seed with the right care and nurture into a full- petaled flower’, she said; as she compared the growth of her company and the emergence of the collection to a well-nursed flower. ‘We at Bello|Edu decided it was time to show the world how we’ve blossomed through this collection that just started as an idea, hence the rational behind the bright colours, patterns, flowery fabric and naming this collection ‘The Bloom’

The look book for this collection has been featured on their website http://www.belloedu.com as well as an online store where purchases can be made and contact information.
You will get more information on their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages.

Aso Misa's World of Art

We interviewed Aso Misa a talented young artist who is ready to share her talent with the World.  To achieve this, she has set up a craft school where people can come in to study Art.Below is the interview we had with her and all the details about her craft school.

TNBGH: Tell us about yourself

ASO: Born Annabella Aso Boadi-Misa
25 years old.
Aburi Girls Senior High School (Visual art)
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Degree: BA Integrated Rural Art and Industry)
An interior and product designer who would like to widely promote interior design and African art in Ghana and the world at large, loves everything art, loves everything design. Started my interior design back in school from designing hostels rooms and then after school while doing service I moved to homes and now hotels and office. Art comes easy to me.
I love learning some things new every day. I love learning areas not in my field of specialty because to be good at what you do you have to have a general idea of what else is around you. I love design. I love working with Photoshop, Corel draw, illustrator, Rhino 3D, Sketch up 3D and all kinds of art material etc. Teach art, also helps me become better at what I do. Currently my main focus is to promote my school alongside my interior design occupation.

TNBGH: Tell me about your craft school.
ASO: The name of my craft school is ABM Art Integrate. The difference between my school and other art schools out there is it excludes cloth design. It covers areas like bag, shoes, neckpieces, bracelets, bangles, packaging boxes, bags and labels, interior artifacts such as mirror design, furniture design etc made from with leather, African print, beads and twine etc, Macramé art and a few more: hence the name Art INTEGRATE . The general idea is to teach how to design and create artifacts we art lovers have dreamt of learning and producing.
We offer courses within a duration of 2 to 3 month. One can combine or choose to do the courses one after the other. We make it a point to advice students on which combinations will be best for them , depending on their interest

TNBGH: Why the decision to set up a craft school?
ASO: I’ve always loved anything art and I love to create. I studied art in the university. I’ve been in an art class and seen how we were taught and know what we would love to learn. There are so many great minds in Ghana when it comes to art but due to limited amount of resources, a lot of people won’t be able to live their dream. I just want to to help others realize their dream and also make a livelihood out of something they love doing.
TNBGH: Who qualifies to attend your craft school?
In my opinion, anyone passionate about art is qualified. Without the zeal to learn, one can’t work in this area of specialty even with raw talent but with reference to our system of education, a senior high school or vocational school graduate would be the best candidate to apply to study in our craft school. In Ghana, senior high school is the level of education students are allowed to start courses that would enable them start developing their talent for their chosen carrier in the near future. That is to say at that stage in the applicant’s life there is a little bit of knowledge the student has acquired, enough to start any of our courses. We also do consider some students who did not study art programs in senior high school or did not compete if attitude of the applicant towards the course he or she wants to pursue is convincing.
Another reason why we concentrate more on the senior high school and vocational school graduates is because most of them are not able to further their education mostly due to personal reasons. ABM Art Integrate is for everyone. School fees are very affordable

TNBGH: What are the requirements?
ASO: At this stage, the main requirement is the applicant’s interest. We have met a lot of interested applicants who did not study art but design and create artifacts  far better than that of a few who come in with art back grounds so till further notice we accept applicants who are interested and ready to do intensive 2 to 3 month art courses. Depending on how the school grows we will make future changes in the area of requirements.
TNBGH: Where is the school located?
The school is located in the Adenta Shopping Mall in Adenta in Accra.  Hard to miss because there’s a direct car from the Adenta main station to the main lorry station or Madina in the Adenta Shopping Mall which is the last stop for any lorry station stop. The location (Adenta Shopping Mall) has a bank, clinic, restaurants, fire service, police station, and a lorry station etc.

TNBGH: How flexible is the curriculum and the term of payment of fee payment
ASO: When a student applies we sit with the student and who gets to choose with our help which 90 days (3months) or 60 days (2 months) they prefer, depending of which course and duration of your courses.
If you apply to do a 3 months, it doesn’t mean you would have to come to class every day. You would have to come to class for 90 days and these days can be spread across 4, 5, or even 6 months. You time table will be scheduled for 90 particular days chosen by you.
We want people from all walks of life to be able to peruse their dream. University students who don’t have lectures during particular hours to not have to wait to finish a 4yr course before doing some else they would love.
School starts at 9am to 3pm.
There’s no class on Monday
There’s class on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Students can pass by if they want to finish up some practical assignment on Monday.
Weekend classes will start in April.
Term of payment of fee payment
ASO: We have reduced our course fee to only tuition fee. Students will buy materials and tools as and when needed. This way , students would not have to spend so much money in the beginning to cut down cost.
Also we have special discount offers.
IF STUDENTS APPLIES TO DO 1 COURSE, EACH COURSE FEE IS FIXED
IF STUDENTS APPLIES TO DO 2 OR MORE COURSE EACH COURSE FEE IS REDUCED BY 16.6 % (50GHC)
IF STUDENT APPLIES TO DO ALL 5 COURSES, EACH COURSE FEE IS REDUCED BY 32.2% (100GHC)

Last day of 2013! Recap! shall we?

All too soon the year has ended and I guess we were all quite trilled. Glad to have been a part of making your year an exciting one, bringing you the trendiest in Fashion from Ghana. I will just provide you with a summary of this years activities starting from the camp of Trendsandblendsgh. We started this year with an Editorial on Afro Diva Nally, we shared her hair story and organized a whole shoot in collaboration with Ghanaian fashion brand Sarah Christian.

We also interviewed some Designers and models a was present at Ghana Fashion and Design Week, Glitz Africa Fashion Week but however couldn’t make it to Citi FM’s Expressions of Accra. Finally we had two different giveaways in collaboration with Sarah Christian, Afiyo creations and Fuschia. I keep saying “we” and I know you are wondering why. Well, we represent a whole team (OAB Photography’s Ben Bond and Fredrick Tetteh have been of great help this year.

Look Books: Fashion designers were at their peak this season with really creative collections. Sarah Christian’s “Ego “, Ameyo “reflections”, Afiyo creations “daga” Christie Browns “Dure”, Alikoto’s “Nkyinkyim”, mSimps “Krai Coon”, kama by kilson’s “rogue” , Afro Mod’s “Nyornu”collection  these are few of the collections I can remember off the top of my head. Lets not forget Deborah Vanessa’s entrance in the industry and we definitely can’t forget her designs nether can I forget those from Abrantie clothing.

Events:  I think fashion events this year were Fab. It started with the FashionistaGh shopping  festival at trade fair which was exciting, Pop up shops were not left out this year. Glitz Africa fashion week took place at the Accra International Conference Centre and I must say I enjoyed every bit of it. It was a 3day event with over 50 designers from Accra, apart from the lateness, which this time was the fault of the attendees, I think it was a Great Event and Mai Atafo from Nigeria and House of Eccentric from Ghana nailed it. Organizers should work on their media tags. Having the name of the media house present on the tag is as important as the picture.

The Retro Fab fashion event a private fashion show held at La villa boutique Hotel OSU. I loved their runway set up in the pool and also loved the clothes from some major boutiques in Accra, must say it was an exhilarating event. I am hoping it will be a bigger show next year.

Finally, Ghana fashion and design week took place at the plush Moven pick Ambassador Hotel, this year's event was okay, it had some flaws and I know the organizers realized and will work on it for a better show next year!!!! p.s I love their media tags #simple

Trending: African wax print hit the peak this season! Everyone joined in the craze. This year we saw bags, shoes, clothes, earrings all made out of the African Print, some labeled it as Ankara but should it really be called? I was quite thrilled to see Printex and GTP rebrand! We are still love their new fabrics and hope they keep up with the growth.

Models and photographers were not left out this year.  This year brought a lot in a lot of models!  I think there should be a body to organize all these models and brand them.  Congratulations to Mecy Ashie and Prince IB for winning the model of the year award at the Glitz Africa Fashion week 2013. We appreciate all you models that have worked tirelessly this year, more grease to your elbow. I am sure next year will be awesome for all of us. More shows, articles, look books, giveaways etc.  There is still definitely room for improvement from all angles! So lets get to work people.
Big Thank u to  Sarah Christian for clothing me this year!!!
Thank u all for always reading my post. Any highlights of 2013 you want to share? drop it in the comment section .

Nkyinkyim collection by Alikoto

Nyinkyim collection fuses the simplicity of mild tones and a dash of happy colours, African-inspired handmade patterned fabric, and designs that pronounce ones personality. The designer wanted to create a collection that celebrated the two distinct descriptions of what it means to be a woman. These were the traits that inspired her as she drew the sketches for this new collection.
She found inspirations in the regular everyday things that flood us with a sense of fulfillment ;the simple gestures we employ to explain ourselves, the single look that has a whole meaning behind it, the different meaning behind a woman's simple 'ok'.

CHALEWOTE STREET ART FESTIVAL2013: What you missed !!!!!

I don’t know how to paint or sketch but I love the Arts, always fascinated by vibrant colors infused in sketches that transcends the understanding of the regular person. I fall in love with things that are almost unusual to accept the reality of its existence. My love for the Arts was rekindled this weekend; it was simply awesome as Accra Dot Alt attempt to revive the arts once again was a huge success. Chalewote street art festival was the event and James town was the venue. From the old Kingsway building through the customs service office to the lighthouse there was a whole lot of events happening at the same time, offering attendees varieties to choose from.

I started my journey from the old Kingsway building where the walls were painted depicting artistic Graffiti. The graffiti’s on the wall were done by artists from NMA and David Bertmann.
To my left was the Absolut Vodka bar and to my right were the Dj’s that were spinning great tunes.   Next stop was the Ussher fort, this fort for years served as a correctional Centre for some time till the prisoners were transferred to other prisons.
A quick tour into the facility revealed how inmates lived, all laid down in ruins. There were people from other countries exhibiting their art in the fort.  There, I met my friend Wini Adom from Frame14 studio who was hosting the cool Accra Segment and yeah “ACCRA is COOL”.

Follow me to Mantse Agbonaa, I met so many friends from Facebook, twitter, instagram, readers and followers of my blog. Exchanged hellos and his and hugs I think that was a memorable re union. There were exhibitors who bought stands to showcase their beautiful designs ranging from clothes to accessories. Food vendors were also present to provide services to patrons that were hungry. The kids were taking through some creative art workshops by German Artist Meyrick Kaminski hosted at GAMADA building.

Quick review of the second day, it rained cats and dogs for some minutes, kids in the neighborhood decided to play football in the rain whiles others were just running up and down the street virtually naked.
There was also a boxing match between boys in the hood and it was quite impressive, to the little boy who cried when he was knocked out, you are a hero! .  How could I forget the masqueraders, that was cool and the men who walked on sticks were totally amazing, our Angel on a Wheel Abrakwah deserves an award! Finally the golden and blue man who walked in slow motion from Ussher fort to the lighthouse, such grace you carried even when it rained I described that as royalty.

Later in the evening the festival was taken to the beach for a live concert. We jammed to performances by Gyedu Blay Ambuley , The lady from Washington Dc , Yawp and Delasi . I couldn’t stay to enjoy the whole show but my sources confirmed it was fun and my buddy Kojo-Cue nailed his performance!  Didn’t loose sight of the presence of Wanluv, Sister Debbie, Gasmilla, Mutombo the poet, and Blogging Ghana members. I had to rush through the post so you could enjoy scrolling through photos from the two-day event. I will do well caption some of the photos.  I hope to see you next year God willing at Jamestown. It was very exciting meeting everyone; if I couldn’t make you out or take a photo with you, forgive me it was an awesome event.
