KNUST FASHION WEEK :ENTREPRENUERSHIP ,EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT

AYO A MODEL AGENCY
Who we are:  Ayo A is a home for fashion and editorial models. It is a Kumasi based modeling agency which deals mostly with the creative minds in fashion. We seek to organize major fashion events for young designers in and outside Kumasi. We are located on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

How we started: We held a model casting at the beginning of the year and the turnout was amazing, therefore we decided to train the models we had for our first fashion show that took place in February last year.

What we have done: Ayo A Models Gh organized  the first ever KNUST fashion weekend last year on Campus which saw amazing works from young designers like Sarah Christian, Imo, kwekuoutluk and many others. Also gracing the runway were designs from young celebrated Ghanaian couture designer, Afri-Ken Novelty.
Models from Ayo A also modeled in Charity fashion show organized by the Medical students of the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Amazingly, Ayo A models were solely used for the Da viva fashion show in Golden Tulip in Kumasi, which climaxed their national fashion workshop held May this year. Other things the Agency has been involved in are ad campaigns for Kwekuoutluk, Exube Couture.
The year’s event is designed to showcase the collections of various fashion designers in and out of campus. It will be a platform for the designers here in Kumasi to showcase their spectacular designs in a major fashion show. Prior to the main event, there will be sales of many fashion items and also two days fashion and entrepreneurship seminar for students and designers which will be climaxed with the fashion shows.
This year’s event begins on the 13th -16th of February 2013, hopefully to be held at various locations on the KNUST campus. This year’s fashion week is in conjunction with the Textiles Students Association and fashionghana.com.

Main details of the event
13th February 2013 - Commencement of fashion fair and exhibition-KNUST museum
14th February 2013 – Fashion and entrepreneurship seminar- communication design lecture hall

I am a Runway, Photo and  Commercial Model

From inception, I had a peculiar fascination for the camera. My dad owned an old school analog camera and it was one of the devices that prevented me from crying a lot “of the times” (bit of humour)). I grew up with the love for posing before camera, thus made me realize I had the passion for modeling and so my decision to go into it.

A model in my own words is a person who confidently exhibits stylish and inspired outputs of a designer or a photographer to the world in diverse ways like Fashion Runway/Catwalk Modelling  Photo Modelling  Body Part Modelling, Lingerie Modelling, Print Modelling etc.

My philosophy about life is to achieve a supernatural connection within the natural context and use my inherent talents to worship God and satisfy the needs of the human race as a whole.

i have been on many runway shows which included Catwalk for Orphans,   Ghana Fashion and design week that was held in October at Movenpik amongst others.

My best experience in the modelling world is having the opportunity to hang out with famous and reputable people, thus a huge platform to learning many things about them and from them

TNB'S CLOSE UP WITH ANASTASIA ATIGLO OF AFIYO CREATIONS (BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE)

Hello , sorry for the long break, i am back fill you in on everything i was up to. i hope you enjoy every bit of it.  XOXO Naa.

TNB: Can you give us a brief profile of yourself.
AFC:  Am Anastasia Afiyo Atiglo  a third year student of University of Ghana, studying social work and also the creative designer at Afiyo creations. I am  passionate about helping the needy mostly kids and has a dream of making the world a better place for the less privilege. I have a beading club in a village called Obrachire where I teach the kids how to make beaded accessories to help empower them and also explore their inner talent. As the founder and creative designer of Afiyo Creations (Afc) I try to produce bespoke beaded accessories which are made of our African print to help promote the use of the print and also help people have that  Afro centric look .My  philosophy is” always be a man of value than a man of success.:).”

TNB: When did you decide to start Afiyo creations?
AFC:I started in my first year in university as my hobby but began serious business in the middle of the year. It has been a little stressful combining Afiyo Creations with studies but I love doing what I do.
TNB: What makes Afiyo creations stand out from other accessory making companies...
AFC: We have unique designs and also try to blend our African prints with beads to help make our accessories stand out from the lot.
TNB: How many collections do you have so far, and what are the differences between them?
AFC:I have two collections, that is Afiyo and Adepa collection. Afiyo was my first collection made up of strictly beaded Accessories whiles Adepa collection consists of Africa print fused with beads.
TNB: How are you able to deal with the pressure and demands from clients......
AFC:I try my possible best to work with time, I manage my time very well n make good use every second, I sometimes give them my time if theirs would not favour I give them mine.

TNB: Tell us about how you got into volunteering work and how you started your club?
AFC:I am passionate about peoples well being, So when I had the opportunity I just made good use of it, Helping people especially kids is something I can't do without therefore it influenced my decision to go into volunteering in addition to what I do .
TNB: What town is your beading club located, and how are the kids responding to your lessons..
AFC: It is in a village called Obrachire. About 30mins drive from Kasoa.I have 35 students but 15 active students. The lessons, I would say has had a lot of impact on them .They are simply amazing and always enthused about it.

TNB: How do you fund your beading club?
AFC: I fund the club through my personal savings, through funds from my parents and a friend called Gideon Marcel.
TNB: Have you thought of raising funds to support your cause?
AFC:I plan of having an exhibition of their handiwork to help raise funds for the school and the club

TNB: what is your advice to anyone who was to venture in your field
AFC: My advice is, “try to do de extraordinary and always love what you love doing best."

MODEL SPOTLIGHT: GRACE SARFO KANTANKA

Photocredit : Ann Moddey for canoe Magazine

Ghana is swiftly rising in every sense when it comes to the fashion industry and our own models can’t be left out. 21 year old Grace Sarfo Kantanka is an outgoing and dark-skinned model, and a graduate of St Johns Grammar Senior High School.
The 2011 Model of the Year loves being shot and being on the runway. She has been modelling for four years and has been exposed to several opportunities and networking with several stakeholders and professionals in the industry.

Her dark complexion is a gift from God for which she is forever grateful. Top model Belinda Baidoo is her inspiration. Grace has graced a lot of runways which included the just ended Ghana Fashion and Design week. She presently doesn't have a manager and is still looking for one who would sell her globally.

Emmanuel Bobbie has played an instrumental role in her journey as a model and she is grateful to him. Her advice to the young in the industry is “determination to succeed coupled with uncompromising prayers.”
